Rob Gagne Cleveland OH Obituary Hockey: Cleveland Barons skate shop owner Rob ‘Gags’ Gagne dies

It is with deep sadness that the Cleveland hockey community mourns the passing of Rob “Gags” Gagne, beloved skate shop owner, equipment expert, and longtime pillar of the Cleveland Barons Organization.

For more than two decades, Rob was far more than a behind-the-scenes professional—he was family to players, coaches, parents, and staff who passed through the rink doors. Known affectionately as “Gags,” Rob was widely respected as one of the very best in his trade.

His precision as a skate sharpener, deep knowledge of hockey equipment, and willingness to help anyone who walked into his shop made him an essential part of the Barons’ success. Players trusted him completely, knowing that if Gags handled their gear, they were ready to perform at their best.

His attention to detail and pride in his work reflected his genuine love for the game. Beyond his professional excellence, Rob was admired for his loyalty, humor, and warmth. He was a true friend to many and a familiar, comforting presence at the rink.

A proud Detroit sports enthusiast, he brought personality and passion into everyday conversations, often brightening long practice days and early mornings with his wit and enthusiasm.

The Cleveland Barons organization shared that for over 20 years, Rob was a constant—someone who helped shape not only players’ equipment, but also the culture and spirit of the rink itself.

His loss is deeply felt across the entire hockey community, where his dedication and kindness left a lasting mark. In honor of Rob’s legacy, the Barons have created a helmet sticker bearing his name, which all Barons teams will wear.

These stickers will also be made available to the broader hockey community outside his shop door at Barons Arena, allowing others to honor and remember him. Rob “Gags” Gagne is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Katherine, and family. He will be remembered for his craftsmanship, loyalty, and the countless lives he touched through the game he loved.
