Frostburg State University Death: Student Dies on Campus: Officials Respond
Frostburg State University is mourning the sudden death of a student on campus Thursday, according to university officials. The student, whose identity has not been released, was found at Frederick Hall, a student dormitory located off Sand Spring Drive. Emergency services were promptly notified, and first responders arrived quickly at the scene.
“This is a heartbreaking loss for our campus community,” said interim president Dr. Darlene Brannigan Smith. “As we grieve together, I encourage everyone to take care of themselves and one another and reach out for support during this difficult time.”
University officials emphasized that counseling and support services are available to students, faculty, and staff affected by the tragedy. Out of respect for the family, the university has withheld further details about the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
Officials said they are working closely with student affairs, university police, and executive leadership to ensure the situation is handled with care and sensitivity. Allegany County Department of Emergency Services EMS Chief Michael Salvadge confirmed that an ambulance was dispatched to Frederick Hall following a report of an “obvious death.”
No patient was transported, and the scene was subsequently turned over to university police. The incident was reported just after 6 p.m. via the Allegany County 911 Center.
Frederick Hall, where the incident occurred, houses numerous students and is an integral part of campus life, located in a central area of the university. The community has been asked to keep the student’s family, friends, and fellow students in their thoughts while respecting their privacy during this difficult period.
The timing of this loss comes during a particularly stressful period for students, as final exams were scheduled from December 10-12 and December 15-16, with commencement set for December 17. University officials are urging the campus community to support one another, prioritize mental health, and take advantage of available resources as they navigate this tragic event.
